Pick garbage before 5 am in summers, DMC told
Nainital: Uttarakhand high court (HC) on Monday after going through photographs submitted in the court of garbage lying on the streets of Dehradun after 9 am in the morning ordered district administration and local municipal body to ensure the garbage gets picked up on time.
The division bench of acting Chief Justice Rajiv Sharma and Manoj Kumar Tiwari directed that in summers (April 15 to September 15), garbage should be picked up before 5 am and after 8.30 pm and in winters (September 16 to April 14), before 7 am and after 6 pm.

The Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC) submitted in the court that the civic body has already entered into an agreement for door-to-door collection of garbage on which the court ordered that the scheme should be “implemented in letter and spirit and the HC be apprised of the same on the next date of hearing”.
The HC was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking the court’s direction to officials concerned to make Dehradun garbage-free. The case will be heard next on October 4.
On September 11, 2018, the HC while appreciating the efforts made by Dehradun district magistrate and the municipal corporation to keep the city clean, directed that Doon be made garbage-free in the next 48 hours. “The city must be cleaned in the morning, as well as in the evening,” the HC division bench had earlier said.
The order came after photographs of garbage lying on Kanwali Road, Dhamawala, Old Tehsil and Ansari Marg were presented in the court by the counsel for the petitioner.
The court had earlier warned that it would take disciplinary action against the senior civic official if garbage was not removed from around the city, especially from around schools and hospitals.
