DEHRADUN: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) failed to strike a chord with the residents of the state with the party's much hyped transgender mayoral candidate, Rajni Rawat, trailing at a distant third spot in the counting of votes till the filing of this report.
The only saving grace for the party was winning two councillor posts from Haridwar, However, it failed towin either a mayor or councilor post anywhere else in the state.
AAP had fielded 40 candidates for the councillor posts in Uttarakhand and just one candidate for the mayoral seat.
Talking to TOI, Rajesh Kala, AAP's media in-charge from Uttarakhand said that the party fought with hope and enthusiasm and has accepted people's mandate. He added that he is happy with the victory of 400 independents across Uttarakhand which is more than double of both BJP and Congress.
"Almost 400 independents have won till now and over 100 are still in the race. This is a clear mandate from the people who are fed up with Congress and BJP," he added.
Meanwhile, Rajni Rawat had confined herself to her house in Chukkuwala area of the city after she failed to make any significant gain in during the counting of ballots. Rawat, who was being seen as a threat to BJP and Congress failed to make AAP win in her own area ward no. 17. Congress candidate Arjun Sonkar won from the Chukkuwala ward.
