Senior BJP leader Umesh Aggarwal dies at 59
Dehradun: After a prolonged battle with cancer, senior BJP leader Umesh Aggarwal, who was 59, passed away on Sunday at his residence in Dehradun.
Aggarwal has been the BJP’s Dehradun district president and a front runner for the mayor's post. BJP leaders visited Aggarwal’s home in Subhash Nagar to meet the leader’s bereaved family and pay their respects. CM Trivendra Singh Rawat termed Aggarwal’s death “an unbearable shock”.
After the untimely death of finance minister Prakash Pant, Aggarwal’s demise was a second jolt for the BJP in a very short span of time.
Aggarwal was battling cancer for the last one year and died at 3:30 am. He was cremated in the afternoon.
Aggarwal was close to Major General BC Khanduri, when the latter was the chief minister of Uttarakhand. The leader has held many party posts and during the 2017 Assembly elections, the BJP considered fielding him from the Dharampur constituency. Vinod Chamoli later contested the seat on a BJP ticket and won.
In a tweet, BJP joint general secretary Shiv Prakash said that Aggarwal was an asset, who had worked to strengthen the party.
