Student rape: Dehradun boarding school loses CBSE affiliation
DEHRADUN: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday cancelled the affiliation of the boarding school in Dehradun where a class X student was allegedly raped last month.
CBSE regional officer for Uttarakhand and Western UP, Ranveer Singh, confirmed to TOI that the board had discontinued the affiliation of the school.
“We had written to our central office and today the office said has finally cancelled the affiliation of the school,” he said.

Singh said that the step had been taken after the school’s response to the show-cause notice issued to them was “evasive and insensitive”. “We had issued a show-cause notice to the school but their response was not satisfactory, hence we had written to the central office to cancel the school’s affiliation,” he said.
In a written order, the board said that it had been communicated to it that the school had not been following security norms. “It has been communicated that during the inspection various shortcomings regarding the safety and security of the students were observed in the school.” The order added that “after due deliberation the board has decided to discontinue the provision affiliation for secondary and senior secondary level granted to the school with immediate effect”.

Singh said students of the school would be allowed to appear for exams through other schools. “We are aware that there are a number of students who are to appear for the board exams. Alternative arrangements will be made for them,” Singh said.
The 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang raped by four boys who were her seniors a month ago. The school allegedly tried to cover up the incident. After the matter came to light, five officials of the school were arrested and the four accused detained.
