DEHRADUN: Three people, including a 10-year-old girl, were killed in separate road accidents in Dehradun district on Sunday. In the first instance, a 37-year-old woman, identified as Vijay Lakshmi, a resident of Jwalapur in Haridwar, was killed after the scooter she was riding was hit by a speeding Uttarakhand Roadways bus near Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) gate on Dehradun-Haridwar Road.
The victim died on the spot, according to police officers.
Inspector Dilbar Singh Negi, in charge of Nehru Colony police station, said, “The eyewitnesses told police that the bus was travelling towards Dehradun while the deceased was going to Haridwar. She had come to her maternal home at Shiv Narayan Vihar in Jogiwala.”
The bus was impounded although the driver fled the scene. “Prima facie, it appears that the bus was speeding. Efforts are underway to trace the driver,” said Negi.
In the second incident, a 10-year-old girl died after she was hit by a speeding vehicle. The girl, identified as Ritika, a resident of Vikasnagar, was crossing the road when she was hit by a utility vehicle on Shimla-Bypass Road.
“The girl was taken to a nearby private hospital where she was declared brought dead by the doctors,” said a police officer.
In another hit-and-run near Rasoolpur in Vikasnagar, a 59-year-old man died after getting hit by an unidentified vehicle. The victim, identified as Jameel, a resident of Dakpathar, died on the spot, according to police officers.
