Uttarakhand: Following IMD's heavy rain warning, schools in several districts to remain closed
Several districts in both the Kumaon and Garhwal regions of Uttarakhand have witnessed heavy rainfall for the last three weeks.
DEHRADUN: After the Indian meteorological Department issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall for several districts of Uttarakhand including Dehradun, District Magistrate ordered all the schools in the district to remain closed on Monday.
"In view of the warnings issued by IMD, to maintain the safety of children going to schools, the administration has decided that the schools as well as the Aanganbari centres should remain closed on Monday," said DM SA Murugesan.
The schools in Nainital and Haridwar will also remain closed on Monday.
Several districts in both the Kumaon and Garhwal regions of Uttarakhand have witnessed heavy rainfall for the last three weeks. On Sunday, the IMD said that Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Chamoli, Udhamsingh Nagar and Tehri are expected to recieve heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.
Following the warnings by IMD, the disaster relief force and the officials in the state have been put on high alert. The agencies like PWD, ADB and CPWD have also been put on alert to repair the roads damaged in case of an incident.
The government is also monitoring the water levels in all the rivers of the state and authorities have been ordered to clear the villages around rivers if the water level touches the danger mark.
