NEW DELHI: Two days after being
run over by his
uncle’s MUV in northwest Delhi’s Bharat Nagar, three-year-old Gulam succumbed to injuries on Wednesday morning. He was undergoing treatment at AIIMS.
DCP (northwest) Vijayanta Arya said that appropriate legal action is being taken against the accused, Aas Mohamed.
Gulam had suffered injuries to his head, chest and other vital organs.
After he was declared dead, IPC Section 304A (causing death due to negligence) was added to the case against the accused.
Mohamed, who was out on bail, was taken in for questioning during which he said that he was scrolling on his mobile
phone and got distracted that led to the accident. After the accident, Mohamed took the child to a nearby hospital and then to AIIMS.
Police said that Mohamed lives in the vicinity and frequently used to play with Gulam, who called him ‘chacha’. The child’s mother Shama and father Shafiq have known Mohamed for more than five years.
The body of the
boy was handed over to his parents following an autopsy.
