NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old man was shot dead near his house in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri by unidentified assailants on Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Amit Kochar.
Kochar earlier worked in a call centre but of late had been involved in the real estate business. The incident took place around 10.50pm, when Kochar was with four friends, chatting among themselves as they waited for the food they had ordered.
When the doorbell rang, Kochar thought it was the delivery person but found some men standing outside.
The victim’s friends told police that Kochar walked out with the men and got in his car. Ten minutes later, the friends heard a gunshot and rushed outside to find a bleeding Kochar. They took him to hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The cops were informed and they inspected the car and house along with the crime and forensics teams. Monika Bhardwaj, DCP (West), said that an FIR was registered for murder, and investigative teams have been assigned to the case. A post-mortem was conducted on Friday and Kochar’s body handed over to his family.
The cops have not attributed any motive to the murder yet, but the initial angle of investigation is a killing due to a dispute over money, sources said. Police are probing if Kochar owned people money or had given money to any acquaintance. The dead man’s wife told the cops that she was unaware of people who were hostile to her husband enough to kill him.
Police scanned Kochar’s call records and are contacting all individuals who were in touch with him in the recent past. Footage from CCTVs in the area is being studied for clues to the assailants’ identities. The four friends of Kochar are also being questioned.
