NEW DELHI: Four people were arrested for beating a 21-year-old man to death in outer Delhi’s Ranhola on Saturday. The accused men thrashed the youth on suspicion that he had eloped with their close relative.
Additional DCP (outer) Rajender Sagar said that the prime accused, Ambika Prasad, has over 20 criminal cases registered against him pertaining to Excise and Arms Acts.
The victim, Netram, worked as a domestic help at his house in Ranhola.
A preliminary probe said that seven months ago, a close relative of Prasad suddenly went missing from her home in Uttar Pradesh. The woman is already married. Her family filed a missing complaint with the cops but no clue was found about her whereabouts.
During this time, the family members continued to search for her and recently learnt about her new address. The family found out that Netram was allegedly living with her and the two were in a relationship.
Upon learning this, Prasad and three other youths caught hold of Netram to question him regarding his relationship with the woman. There, the four men thrashed him with iron rods and pipes till he collapsed.
The men then rushed the youth to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The four accused then fled as the hospital staff alerted the cops.
After registering a case of murder, police started a manhunt and nabbed the four men.
Police said that Netram had befriended the woman when she used to come meet Prasad and his family. He later helped her elope from her husband’s home.
The cops have also recovered the weapons used in the murder and have contacted the family of the victim.
