75 parking lots in south Delhi to get e-charging stations by December

NEW DELHI: In a bid to motivate people into using electric vehicles, South Delhi Municipal Corporation has finalised the plan to install charging points at 75 parking lots by December.
The civic body has shared the list of the identified parking lots with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under the Union ministry of power. “After conducting a feasibility test, we identified 14 parking lots where e-charging points would be developed on priority.The locations were finalised on the basis of their footfall, accessibility, area and other factors,” said a senior SDMC official.
The 14 parking lots covered in Phase I are located at the markets in Greater Kailash-I M Block, Aurobindo Place, Safdarjung Enclave, Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Vasant Kunj, Janakpuri, Dwarka, Civic Centre, RK Puram and Greater Kailash-II M Block. The rest of the parking lots will be covered in the second phase.
South corporation is expected to sign a MoU with EEESL by the end of this month, after which work to install the e-charging points will begin at the parking lots. “We will need 3-4 weeks to complete the project. There will be direct current (DC) chargers installed for four-wheelers and alternating current (AC) chargers for two-and three-wheelers. Depending on the availability of space, we will develop charging plaza at some parking lots,” an EEESL official said.
Last year, SDMC had procured 75 electric cars for its senior officials. “In all, we have replaced 75 diesel and petrol vehicles with e-vehicles to reduce carbon emissions by 75,000 MT per year. For their charging, multiple e-stations are provided at Civic Centre and the zonal office buildings,” the civic official added.
