NEW DELHI: Robbers broke into an ATM in northwest Delhi’s Mahindra Park on Saturday morning, threatened the guard with a gun, cut open the ATM machine with a gas cutter and fled with the cash box.
According to Mukesh Kumar, the security guard present at the ATM kiosk, three men with their faces covered entered the kiosk and hit him with a pistol butt. They then dragged him into the rest room and locked him there.

On Saturday morning, when another guard came to relieve Kumar from duty, he found the entire place ransacked. Kumar was later found locked in the rest room.
While one them held a gun to Kumar’s temple, the other two pulled out a gas cutter to cut open the machine. The men then broke the lock of the container and fled with the cash. Before leaving, the accused threatened Kumar with dire consequences if he raised an alarm.
Bank authorities are still trying to ascertain the amount stolen by the accused. Sources, however, said the cash box might have held over Rs 10 lakh.
Cops are scanning the CCTV footage from inside the ATM kiosk to identify the robbers. DCP (North West) Vijayanta Arya said a case of robbery has been registered.
In March 2018, a similar incident was reported from Bamnoli village near Dwarka where robbers ripped off an ATM containing Rs 31 lakh. Cops are yet to trace the miscreants. A few days later, a group of robbers targeted an ATM in Uttam Nagar and fled with over Rs 30 lakh in cash. Both ATMs did not have real-time CCTV monitoring system.
