NEW DELHI: Three members of an international narcotic drug cartel were arrested and heroin worth Rs 24 crore was seized from them, police said on Tuesday.
The accused were identified as Taibali, a resident of Manipur, Islamuddin and Shohidur Rahman Jodder, both residents of Assam, and 6 kg of heroin was seized from them, they added.
The Special Cell was working on gathering information about an international narcotic drug cartel active in Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Assam, West Bengal etc.
It was found that members of this cartel were involved in the supply of high grade heroin from Manipur, said Pramod Singh Kushwah, deputy commissioner of police (Special Cell).
On May 20, it was learnt that Taibali had come to Delhi to deliver a consignment of heroin to his conduits in Delhi near the Indraprastha Park, Ring Road.
A trap was laid near the Indraprastha Park bus stand. Taibali arrived there with a bag and later Islamuddin and Jodder also came from the ISBT Sarai Kale Khan side. Subsequently, the three accused were nabbed.
During interrogation, they revealed that they were associated with a drug syndicate being run by a drug supplier of Manipur.
Taibali revealed that the seized consignment was supplied to him by that person. He also told police that the kingpin had links with drug suppliers in Myanmar and he received huge consignments of heroin from there, police said.

There is widespread illegal cultivation of opium in the bordering areas of Manipur and drug manufacturers also prepare heroin from opium and supply it further in parts of the country, Kushwah said.
Taibali also revealed that the quality of heroin smuggled from Myanmar is much superior to heroin produced in Manipur and is also cheaper than heroin produced by their counterparts in India. Heroin produced in Myanmar is in high demand internationally and also in India, the DCP added.
Taibali was supplying heroin to his contacts, including persons of African origin in Delhi for the last three years. He has already supplied more than 120 kg heroin to his contacts in Delhi.
He also supplied heroin to drug dealers in other parts of NCR, UP, Punjab, West Bengal, Assam etc. He used to bring consignments of heroin by keeping in secret cavities of trucks coming from Manipur to Delhi.
In the last two-three years, there has been an increase of supply of heroin in parts of India from Manipur and Myanmar.
The demand of heroin produced in the traditional areas of Bareilly, Badaun, Barabanki in UP, Jhalawar in Rajasthan and Mandsore in Madhya Pradesh has diminished in comparison to heroin brought from Manipur and Myanmar due to superior quality and less cost, the DCP added.
