Delhi: How this ‘doctor’ sold Oz dreams in 5-star hotels

NEW DELHI: With a PhD and a plethora of other degrees, 61-year-old DH John Paul could have opted for teaching post-retirement. However, he chose crime and duped people by assuring them of high-paying jobs in Australia.
Paul completed his studies from Andhra University and had been living in Bengaluru till a few years ago. He came to Delhi from Halli Village in Karnataka and started operating as a global education and job consultant.He allegedly floated two fictitious firms — Seven Seas Consultancy and Mac Global Consultancy — to lure youths by promising them high-paying jobs in Australia.
He would stay in five-star hotels in Lutyens’ Delhi and meet clients for interviews. Paul would charge each candidate between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 lakh. He also provided fake offer letters to the aspirants.
His con job would have gone unchecked had it not been for a woman and a few others who laid a trap for him in Dwarka. One of them posed as a jobseeker and met Paul at Golden Palm Hotel in Sector 12, Dwarka. Police were alerted when he arrived.
DCP (New Delhi) Eish Singhal said a woman named Archana from Rohini lodged a complaint claiming that Paul had taken Rs 2 lakh from her to get her a job that didn’t materialise. “We got similar complaints from Marques, Michael Zavier, Johny Rodrick, Ibrahim and RP Rao,” Singhal added.
The case was assigned to sub-inspector Avinash from Chanakyapuri police station. When the complainant alerted police about Paul’s presence in Dwarka, he was arrested from there. The accused was booked under IPC Section 420 (cheating). Police seized a few fake offer letters from his possession.
“The cops will get the details of the duration of his stay in the five-star hotels. Till date, 17 victims have been found and their statements have been recorded,” Singhal said.
