Dwarka's Sector 19 was buzzing with activity recently, as around 2,000 runners participated in the sixth edition of the Dwarka Half Marathon. It was co-organised by the Mexican Embassy along with coach Ravinder, a marathoner and fitness coach. A music band kept the energy of the runners high with peppy Mexican beats. The marathon was part of the 208th-anniversary celebrations of Mexico's independence and was hosted to raise funds for cancer patients.

Selfies, live videos and more
The event saw many first-time runners, apart from regular runners, who participated in different categories – 5K, 10K, 15K and 21K runs. Mexican Ambassador Melba Pria, who took part in the 21K run, expressed her excitement after crossing the finish line with a victory sign. She said, "Thank you for your support and thank you for believing that we can make a difference by doing exactly what we like, which is running." She added, "The run was organised to celebrate the 208th year of our independence. We want to send across a message that regardless of what you celebrate, there is always time to do things for others. Apart from being a celebration of Mexico’s independence and the country's relationship with India, this is also a celebration of our healthier lifestyle and support causes that are close to our hearts, like this one."

While some clicked selfies with fellow runners and medals that they won, others went live on social media while finishing the run. "This was the fifth time that I participated in a half-marathon professionally. I went live on Facebook while running. I have a decent number of followers there, so I thought of encouraging them," said Rajiv, a runner who finished the 21K run.

A 'diplomatic' ride
Like always, the Mexican Ambassador was driven on her personal autorickshaw. While the vehicle was parked near the stage, it became a hit with runners, who got clicked with the colourful three-wheeler. Some also wore sombreros and posed happily with the auto.
