Discom in tie-ups to save energy in east Delhi

NEW DELHI: BSES Yamuna (BYPL) has partnered with industry leaders The Energy and Resources Institute (Teri), Panasonic India and Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) to reduce power demand by bringing in energy-efficient steps.
Among its three initiatives is a behavioural energy-saving app. he initiative will be scaled up in the second phase to cover around 2 lakh residential consumers and is expected to help consumers save up to 10% in their energy bills.
The second initiative is a green division concept under which BYPL’s office locations in the Anand Lok subdivision of the Mayur Vihar division will be made carbon neutral .
Then there will be solar micro grids with energy battery storageat BYPL’s offices in east Delhi.
These initiatives were unveiled on Thursday during a workshop organised by BSES Yamuna and its partners.
According to a senior BSES official, leading discoms in the world are working on demand-side management (DSM) initiatives to reduce power demand and bring in energy efficiency. “These three initiatives have the potential to save around 380 million units of electricity and 2.6 lakh tonnes of CO2 annually. They have the potential to reduce over 100MW of power load in east and central Delhi areas,” he added.
