NEW DELHI: A major fire ravaged a footwear factory in northwest Delhi’s Keshavpuram on Monday morning. At least 25 fire tenders were pressed into service to control the blaze.
Chief fire officer Atul Garg said that the incident was reported at 8am and no casualties were reported. The factory is located on Lawrence Road and manufactures footwear for a popular brand.
It is suspected that the fire started from short-circuit in the metre board and then spread to the storage room of the unit tthat was filled with packed items.

Firemen said that the fire took at least three hours to control due to the flammable material being kept in such a large quantity in the unit. The adjoining buildings of the unit were also evacuated as precautionary measure.
Police is questioning the owners of the unit and it is being checked if the factory had adequate fire-fighting measures in place.
