NEW DELHI:
Delhi high court on Monday expedited the proceedings in the two
rape cases pending against self-styled spiritual guru
Virender Dev Dixit, who is currently absconding.
A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and justice C Hari Shankar directed the magistrate to complete the proceedings in the case and send it to the sessions court for the trial to begin.
The court’s direction came after CBI informed that steps were being taken to declare Dikshit as an absconder and added that chargesheets have been filed in both the cases.
Dixit, the founder of
Adhyatmik Vidyalaya ashram at Rohini in northwest Delhi where girls and women were allegedly confined, has been absconding since the matter reached high court.
Meanwhile, the court instructed the appellate tribunal of the corporation to swiftly dispose of, preferably within eight weeks, the appeals against North Delhi Municipal Corporation’s decision to demolish the ashram, Adhyatmik Vidyalaya. The ashram had moved the tribunal after the corporation slapped a notice to demolish the illegal constructions. The bench also asked the corporation as to why no steps were taken to vacate the stay granted by the tribunal against the demolition order to which the corporation replied that it had on several occasions told the tribunal that high court was monitoring the issue, but still the stay was granted in favour of the ashram.
