Delhi: House owner away, burglars have a party before fleeing with Rs 7 lakh items

NEW DELHI: A gang of burglars who broke into a house in west Delhi’s Janakpuri not only decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs 7 lakh, but also feasted the entire night on beer, juice and food kept in the refrigerator.
The burglary in C5-Block of Janakpuri came to the fore when the owner of the house, who was out of the city, reached on Saturday morning and found her house locks broken.
The owner works with the NGO of Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi. When she entered the house, she found rotting banana peels, empty beer cans, juice bottles and other garbage strewn all around. The cupboards and safes were broken and all valuables were missing.
A case of theft has been registered at Janakpuri police station. A probe has revealed that at least two men were involved in the robbery that took place around Friday. The burglars went through all the safes and almirahs and stole jewellery, cash and valuable artefacts.
Rather than quickly leaving the area, the burglars decided to stay in the empty house. They checked the refrigerator and found beer, canned juice and bananas. The men consumed them, took rest and left before anyone could see them.
The investigating team suspects that either the burglars knew about the movements of the house owner or someone had given them a tip-off that she was out of the city. A list of suspects is being prepared by police.
CCTV footage is being scanned to ascertain the sequence of events and to find out when the men entered and exited the house. The empty beer bottles and juice cans are being examined for fingerprints. Security guards of the area are also being quizzed to find clues.
