NEW DELHI: Two days after a 35-year-old property dealer was gunned down outside his house in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri, a juvenile shooter was nabbed from Rohini Sector-35 for the offence. Before being apprehended, the accused fired at the police team.
Additional CP (Crime) Rajiv Ranjan said a team led by DCP Joy Tirkey was tipped off about the suspect’s movement and a trap was laid near the helipad in Rohini Sector-35.
At 4am, the cops noticed a juvenile standing next to a Creta SUV. When they approached him, he started to flee and later pulled out a countrymade pistol and fired a round at the cops. However, after a brief chase, the cops managed to nab him.
During a search, the cops recovered a 7.65mm pistol with four live rounds. They also found two more loaded pistol in the car. In total, three pistols and 21 rounds were seized from the youth.
The youth told the cops that he worked with a Najafgarh-based gangster Lokesh alias Surya and confessed to being involved in the murder of property dealer Amit Kochar. Apart from Lokesh, the other suspects have been identified as Pradeep, Neeraj and Rahul.
The cops said Lokesh was a close associate of slain gangster Vikas Dalal, who died during a shootout at Dwarka Mod Metro Station in May this year.
The juvenile told the cops that Kochar was a bookie, who the gang had been following and demanding money from for some time. Tired of Kochar consistently evading them, Surya went to his house with three associates on Thursday night and found him drinking with his friends.
Kochar’s friend Mouksh Malik told the cops, “At 10.50am, the doorbell rang and Kochar went out. When he did not return for 10 minutes, our friend Dhruv Kapoor went to check on him. He saw Kochar inside his car with someone, and around 3-4 men were standing outside.”He added that Kapoor, who went to outside, was signalled to return to the house.

As soon as Kapoor entered the house, he heard gunshots and again rushed outside. The friends saw the men standing outside the car, firing at Kochar from a close range. By the time Kochar’s friends rushed out to help, the gang managed to escape. They rushed Kochar to a nearby hospital in the same car, where he was declared brought dead.
The cops said the gang had been involved in running an extortion racket in west and southwest Delhi. Last year, they had threatened a doctor in Bindapur and demanded Rs 1 crore. One of their associate, Jitender, was arrested for the offence.
Similarly, they executed an armed robbery at a departmental store in Janakpuri on April 29. A few days later, they contacted the store owner and made an extortion threat as well. The Creta SUV recovered from the juvenile was found to have been robbed in Rajasthan, the cops added.
