NEW DELHI: After a four-month-long pursuit, a joint team of Delhi Police and Nepal Police managed to rescue a four-year-old boy who had been abducted by a couple from his house in northwest Delhi’s Keshavpuram in April. The accused couple has been arrested and the boy has been united with his parents.
The accused, Poonam and Sonu, lived in the same area as the victim for ten years and had a nine-year-old daughter. Three years ago, the couple happened to tell their families that they had had a boy.
The woman, however, could not conceive because of health issues.
The couple thus hatched a plan to kidnap a boy so their family does not find out the truth, police said. They had zeroed in on the boy six months before they executed the plan.
The kidnapping was reported on April 5, when the child’s family lodged an FIR. The child was playing near his house when he was abducted. The family looked around in the neighbourhood but could not find him.
DCP Aslam Khan said that a case was registered and CCTV cameras of the area were scanned. A team of inspector Satvinder Rana and SI Rakesh Duhan was formed under additional DCP A K Lall. In the footage of a CCTV, the accused woman was seen walking while talking on phone, and the child walking just behind her. Poonam and her husband lived in Rampura locality of the area and were found missing.
The cops found that the couple had gone towards Gorakhpur and later to Mahrajganj in UP after the kidnapping. However, the couple was also gone from there.
On July 17, police raided Sanauli and managed to detain a relative who was in touch with the. He told the cops that the couple had fled to a village named Dugoliya in Rupandehi, Nepal.
“The matter was discussed with the local police of district Maharjganj and Nepal Police was also contacted. They were explained the gravity of the case after which they agreed to help. They were briefed, and using the inputs they conducted a raid in the village and rescued the boy,” DCP Khan added. The boy was handed over to the Delhi Police at the border.
