NEW DELHI: A 33-year-old man and his three-year-old niece were severely injured after they fell off Badarpur flyover as their motorcycle met with an accident on Thursday.
The injured were identified as Mohan and Dipti, and a case was registered based on their statements.
Mohan and Dipti were going towards Faridabad on his Bullet. They had just climbed on the flyover around 7am when another motorcycle coming from behind sped past them.
Preliminary investigation revealed that there was no impact, but the suddenness of it made Mohan lose control of his bike and hit the side barrier of the flyover. The impact of the crash was such that both Mohan and his niece were flung from their bike and they landed below the flyover.
Passersby who saw the duo fall went to their assistance and rushed to Apollo hospital. Subsequently, the police were informed about it too.
When police reached the spot, they found the motorcycle lying at one end of the flyover. Traffic movement in the area was affected and additional staff had to be deployed to normalise the situation.
Police said the duo had sustained severe injuries but were conscious. Mohan even managed to record his statement.
Police teams are now scanning CCTV footage from the entire stretch to find out what two-wheeler it was and who rode it. Statements are also being taken from people who saw the accident and a team of forensic experts has also visited the accident site.
According to the police, Mohan works with a private firm and lives in west Delhi’s Inderpuri. Both he and his niece have suffered bruises and multiple fractures. They are under medical observation.
