NEW DELHI: A
security breach was
foiled at the
Army headquarters in central Delhi when
four people, including a
woman, tried to gain entry by
posing as
military intelligence officers. One of them was actually wearing an
army uniform.
The incident took place at 5pm on Friday. They were detained and handed over to police. During interrogation, the main accused confessed to running a fake job racket.
“The main accused Amit Sharma, a resident of Ghaziabad, his wife Harjit Kaur, driver Sonu Singh and another person, Sandeep, arrived at DRDO, Sena Bhawan.
Sharma claimed he was lieutenant Colonel Abhimanyu Sharma posted with the army and showed an ID card issued by PMO,” DCP Madhur Verma said.
The guard got suspicious. When questioned, the man appeared uneasy and the guard reported the matter to the chief security officer. The card was checked by the on-duty Naik and found to be fake.
The accused were questioned individually. The fourth person, Sandeep Kumar, said he had paid Rs2.5 lakh to Sharma for a job in the army. The police then registered an FIR under sections of cheating, forgery and impersonation at South Avenue police station and arrested all four.
Sharma told cops that he had pursued his MTech from a reputed institute, but took to crime for easy money.
