NEW DELHI: A criminal, wanted in three murder cases, was caught by the Crime Branch on Monday. The accused was on the run for the past few months and a reward of Rs 25,000 had been declared for his arrest.
Additional CP Rajiv Ranjan said that the man, Sumit Katwal, was nabbed when he came to meet an associate in Rohini. Katwal had shot a rival gang member to avenge the death of his friends — Pradeep, Ravi and Akshay — whose bodies were dumped at Gang Nahar near Khatauli in Uttar Pradesh.
“A team led by DCP Joy Tirkey had been tracking Katwal’s movement as he changed his hideouts frequently,” said Ranjan.

Katwal, a Class XI dropout, has been arrested twice in cases of murder and robbery in Haryana and was given bail in 2018.
On June 4, he, along with an associate, shot one Balbir in Sonepat to avenge the murder of his friends. Four days later, Katwal, with three other men, shot dead one Hoshiyar Singh and his wife in Sonepat after suspecting him of being involved in the murder of his friends. On that very day, Katwal also shot his neighbour Surender over a petty argument.
