Najma Akhtar had a meeting with Union Minister for Tribal Affairs,
Arjun Munda recently. She requested the minister to provide funds for setting up North-East Central Research and Resource Centre at JMI. She informed the minister that JMI will try to highlight the issues of tribal in the North East through research and studies as they are more or less confronted with the same issues as that of minorities.
Akhtar briefed Munda about the Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research already functioning at JMI which is dedicated for the study of issues related to the North East with emphasis on various aspects of tribal communities in the region. In her bid to make JMI an institution of international repute with high quality research the Vice Chancellor had earlier called on the President of India Ramnath Kovind and Prime Minister
Narendra Modi and sought their support for the development of the university including setting up of a medical college-cum-hospital.
