The capital’s air continued to be in the ‘poor’ category on Sunday, according to CPCB’s index, with the AQI being clocked at 235.
“Delhi and adjoining areas continue to remain under the influence of a dust storm that originated from the north western part of Rajasthan.
The air quality of Delhi, which was ‘very poor’ until recently, is in the ‘poor’ category with PM10 as the lead pollutant. Dust emission on Sunday was, however, less than yesterday and hence we can expect slight improvement till tomorrow morning,” a SAFAR report stated on Sunday.
Data according to CPCB’s control room, meanwhile, showed NCR’s average PM10 readings more than twice the safe standard on Sunday. While the average PM2.5 readings at 7pm were recorded at 62.6 micrograms per cubic metre, the average PM10 readings at the same time were 260.1 micrograms per cubic metre.
The safe standard for both these particulates is 60 and 100 micrograms per cubic metres, respectively.
In terms of weather, it was humid day and the maximum and minimum temperatures were 37.7° and 30.2 degrees Celsius, both three notches above normal. The humidity levels oscillated between 74 and 52%.
