NEW DELHI: The education department of Delhi government has transferred the head of the east Delhi school where a student was seriously injured last week when a ceiling fan fell during class hours. However, the school management committee (SMC) has objected to the move.
According to SMC members, it was unfair to transfer Satish Laxmanrao Nandanwar, who was the vice-principal of Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya (SBV) Block 20, as he was not even the building in-charge.
“The principal is not responsible for the incident. It is the public works department that has built the school and the principal of the morning school is the building in-charge,” said Pradeep Bidlan, an SMC member.
Harsh, a Class VII student, was injured on the head on July 10 and had to be hospitalised. The school was renovated two years ago and the incident took place in its new building.
Nandanwar, who joined the new posting at SBV Khajoori Khas on Monday, said he had been made a “scapegoat”. “The building was inaugurated on October 7, 2017 and it is a rule that PWD will maintain it for two years. The incident has happened even before two years. I am not even responsible for the building. They had to blame someone and I was chosen for it,” he told TOI.
The action was taken following an inquiry ordered by the director of the directorate of education. Despite repeated attempts, he was not available for comments on Monday.
