NEW DELHI: A 19-year-old boy died after he was allegedly attacked by his neighbours over a monetary dispute on Saturday. The incident took place in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden after an argument ensued between his family and their neighbours who owed them money. Three men have been arrested.
The victim has been identified as Suraj Pathak, a resident of Raghubir Nagar.
His father Dhruv Pathak works as a supplier of construction material. Police said Dhruv had sold material worth Rs 3 lakh to his neighbor, Shiv Charan. However, in spite of asking for the payment several times, Charan didn’t pay up.
Speaking to TOI, Suraj’s brother Shashank said, “Charan had told my father earlier that he would pay him on September 25 but still didn’t make the payment. He owed us around 1.5 lakh rupees. My father was in Lucknow for work and returned to Delhi on Saturday noon.”
Shashank said that on returning to the city on Saturday, his father went to Charan’s house to talk to him. Charan and his family allegedly started threatening them. “His sons came out carrying iron rods. My brother was close by and they attacked Suraj. We rushed him to the hospital but he succumbed to his injuries,” said Shashank.
Suraj was a Class XII student.
“We have arrested Shiv Charan and his sons Sushil and Anit. A case of murder has been registered,” said Deepak Purohit, deputy commissioner of police (West). Police are also checking if more people are involved in the crime.
