Woman dies after falling off cluster bus in east Delhi

NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old woman fell to her death while alighting from a cluster bus in east Delhi’s Jagatpuri on Tuesday. She allegedly fell off the bus after the driver accelerated while she was getting down.
According to the police, the victim, Sushma Thakur, lived with her family in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar. She had recently completed her BCom and was currently interning with an accounting firm. She used to go daily to Jagatpuri for work and used to take the bus plying on route 211.
On Tuesday, Thakur took the cluster bus.When it reached Jagatpuri, she stood on the footboard to alight. However, police said that before she could get down, the driver accelerated the vehicle. She lost her balance and fell on the road suffering severe injuries to her head. The driver allegedly did not stop and sped away.
Later, Thakur was shifted a nearby hospital where she was declared dead. The body was handed over to her family members after an autopsy.
The family got to know about the involvement of the cluster bus through the ticket found in Thakur’s pocket, which contained the details of the vehicle’s registration number. It has been handed over to police for investigation. A case of dangerous driving and causing death due to negligence has been registered at Jagatpuri police station.
Police are scanning CCTV footage from the accident site to get the sequence of events and to identify the driver. Cops are also speaking to cluster bus officials to seek information about the suspect. A team of forensic experts later visited the spot and collected evidence for investigation.
In April this year, a speeding cluster bus had rammed a motorcycle opposite Jor Bagh in south Delhi killing one person and critically injuring another. This is the fourth fatal accident involving a cluster bus in the past three months.
