GURUGRAM: As six more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Faridabad on Tuesday, the total tally of patients went up to 27, according to the health department. All six men tested positive had attended Tablighi Jamaat (TJ) congregation. The number of patients with TJ link is 17 now. Out of 17, four are from other states, including two from Assam, one each from Delhi and UP and the remaining 13 are residents of rural areas of Faridabad.
Also, a health official said a 53-year-old man who works in Noida’s Cease Fire company contracted the disease from his colleagues tested positive for Covid-19 in a Faridabad hospital.

Of the 23 Faridabad patients, who are residents of the district, nine are from urban areas while 13 who have TJ links are from rural areas. The remaining one person, a health worker, is from a Sonipat rural area and had come in contact with people with Jamaat links. This is hinting at the fact that Covid-19 infection is spreading across more urban areas.
“The health department is testing samples of all Covid-19 patients and the contact tracing is still going on. We are screening people in mosques and informing the states to which they belong,” said Dr Ram Bhagat, deputy civil surgeon, Faridabad.
The first Covid-19 patient in Faridabad was a 53-year-old woman — a resident of Sector 11 — who has already been discharged. She had travelled to Spain.
Moreover, a group of five patients are admitted to ESI hospital. Of them, three patients — a 53-year-old Cease Fire employee, his 52-year-old wife and 26-year-old son — are from a family.
An official said the wife and son of the 53-year-old employee of Cease Fire contracted the disease from him. He was discharged after recovery on Monday. The remaining two of the five patients include a BSF commandant (52) and his wife (50).

He is posted in Gwalior and contracted infection from an officer there. Later, his wife was infected.
Also, among the 27 patients is a 32-year-old man working in a German multinational conglomerate in Gurgaon, who is a resident of Faridabad’s Sector-28. Another patient is a 51-year-old man who owns a travel company in Delhi. He had met a Noida resident tested positive for Covid-19. He is in Safdarjung hospital. A 44-year-old doctor, who is the ICU in-charge at a Faridabad private hospital, was also tested positive. The 26-year-old health worker of Faridabad, who had come in contact with patients, has been admitted to a Sonipat hospital.
Age group
Nearly 42% of the total number of patients in Faridabad are in the age group of 51-61 years, while 23% are of 21-30 years. Among TJ attendees, there is a 15-year-old boy.
“People of any age group may contract Covid-19. This is just a coincidence that the higher percentage of people who have contracted the infection is of 51-61 years,” said Dr Rajesh Kumar, epidemiologist, Paras Hospital, Gurgaon.
Administration’s plans
The administration will start a door-to-door survey seeking residents’ details. The info like if any family members are symptomatic, had travelled abroad recently and whether they have TJ links will be collected. “We have constituted 187 mobile teams,” said an official.
People screened
According to the administration, 1,268 people with foreign travel history are being monitored. Of them, 185 people have completed 28 days of quarantine. A total of 338 samples have been sent for testing so far, of which 254 are negative.
