FARIDABAD: The crime branch of Faridabad Police on Saturday arrested thewife of gangster Kaushal and their servant in connection with the murder of Haryana Congress functionary Vikas Chaudhary, who was shot dead on Thursday outside a gym.
These are the first arrests made in the case. The accused have been identified as Kaushal's wife Roshni and his servant Naresh, alias Chand.
While Naresh was sent to three days' police remand, Roshni was sent to 14-day judicial custody by duty magistrate Pradeep Kumar. Police sources said Kaushal gang members had tried to extort Rs 1 crore from Chaudhary. Following his refusal, a conspiracy to kill him was hatched, in which the two arrested were involved, they added.
On Thursday, 41-year-old Chaudhary, who was a party spokesperson and a close aide of state chief Ashok Tanwar, was parking his white Fortuner outside a gym in Sector 9 when a couple of gun-wielding men, who seem to have been trailing him in a car, pumped about 12-15 bullets at the vehicle, killing him on the spot.
Police on Saturday recovered the assailants' car from BPTP Faridabad. They suspect the involvement of two more people, Vikash and Sachin, who allegedly fired the fatal shots at Chaudhary. Both the men are absconding.
ACP crime, Faridabad, Anil Kumar, said that after preliminary interrogation, it appeared prima facie that a financial dispute was the motive behind the murder. "Roshni and Naresh purchased and made weapons available to Vikash and Sachin, who then shot Chaudhary. Vikash, alias Bhalle, is a resident of Dhanwapur village and Sachin is a resident of Khedi village in Faridabad," police said in a statement.
Police also said Naresh had identified the accused, Vikash, in the CCTV footage, retrieved from outside the gym, as the same person whom he and Roshni had supplied weapons.

Roshni is a resident of Naharpur Rupa village in Gurgaon. Kaushal's live-in partner Manisha was arrested by police recently in another case. Kaushal is believed to be living in Dubai currently, and also has a gang running operatins from Thailand.
DGP Haryana Manoj Yadava constituted a special investigation team (SIT) under the supervision of Sanjay Kumar, IPS, commissioner of police, Faridabad, to take over the case.
Meanwhile, traders are on the edge because a chilling audio clip from Kaushal has reached more than 10 businessmen, telling them to pay money in three days or perish like Chaudhary.
