FARIDABAD: Union minister Krishan Pal Gurjar won from the Faridabad Lok Sabha constituency again, defeating arch-rival Avtar Singh Bhadana of Congress by a whopping margin of 6.4 lakh votes - the second-highest difference in the state after Karnal.
While the BJP heavyweight bagged 9.1 lakh votes, with a vote percentage of 68.8%, Avtar Singh managed to garner 2.7 lakh votes with vote percentage of 20.7.
BSP's Mandhir Singh Mann came a distant third, with 86,752 votes and percentage of 6.5.
Candidates of INLD (Indian National Lok Dal) and AAP (Aam Aadmi Party), on the other hand, got less than one per cent votes. Pandit Naveen Jaihind of AAP bagged mere 11,112 votes, while INLD's Mahender Singh Chauhan got 12,070 votes.
In 2014, Krishan Pal had defeated then sitting MP Avtar Singh by 4.6 lakh votes.
BJP workers attributed the victory in Faridabad to the Modi wave and the state government's development plank. "No other party could do this in the past 50 years. We are sure of winning the forthcoming assembly elections also," said Raghav Kumar, a party worker.
The total voter turnout in Faridabad was 64.1%.
