Aires Rodrigues booked in case of dual citizenship

PANAJI: Crime branch of Goa police on Saturday booked social activist Aires Rodrigues in the alleged case of dual citizenship filed against him.
Crime branch superintendent of police (SP) Pankaj Kumar Singh told TOI that they had filed the chargesheet against Rodrigues in the case, in 2016.
In January 2016, Old Goa police had filed an FIR against the activist for holding dual citizenship.
The FIR was based on a complaint by former Colva panchayat member Calvert Gonsalves, who had alleged that the birth of Aires Antonio Miranda Rodrigues was registered in the central registry of births, marriage and deaths of Lisbon, Portugal, as ‘Assento de Nascimento No. 1260-A’ on November 2, 1987.
Gonsalves had also claimed that Rodrigues had obtained various Portuguese citizen cards such as a ‘Bilhete de Identidade’ (identity card) and a ‘Cartao de Cidadao’ bearing number 11183778, which was issued to him on November 10, 2010, and was due to expire on November 9, 2015.
Later the case was transferred to crime branch.
