As an additional safety feature, the app will be equipped with facilities such as a torch and whistle.
Information about authorities, laws, judgements and safety tips will also be available at one’s fingertips.
The app has been conceptualised by Emidio Pinho and Audrey Pinto of SCAN-Goa, keeping in mind the urgent need for a single platform system for women and children in distress, so that they can access information to protect themselves and also seek assistance from appropriate authorities when necessary.
Speaking at the launch function, Pinho, coordinator of the state victim assistance unit, said that children will be able to have a better understanding on the laws as the same are drafted in a child-friendly manner.
“Besides this, they will be able to get in touch with different authorities and know how to protect themselves through the safety tips on the app. We feel that this may also decrease the incidents of abuse and suicide,” he said.
The app contains all relevant information related to women and children. Contact details of authorities such as Child Welfare Committees, Juvenile Justice Board, Children’s Commission, Women’s Commission, Protection officer, etc, is available on the app. Laws relating to children and women are also provided.
