Calangute to get new sarpanch

Calangute: Francis ‘Forsu’ Rodrigues is set to be the next sarpanch of Calangute following the resignation of current sarpanch Shawn Martins.
Martins resigned on October 10 as per mutual agreement between panchayat members of the ruling panel. The election for the sarpanch is likely to be held in the last week of October, sources said.
Rodrigues is known as the ‘giant killer’ as he had defeated former sarpanch and Calangute strongman Joseph Sequeira in the last panchayat elections in 2017.He represents the Maddawaddo west ward.
Following the victory of the Calangute MLA Michael Lobo-backed panel in 2017, former ZP member Anthony Menezes had been elected the sarpanch, followed by Martins.
