PANAJI: Social activist Aires Rodrigues has on Sunday dismissed the chargesheet filed against him in an alleged dual citizenship case as political vendetta.
He said the chargesheet filed against him by the crime branch of Goa Police was a vindictive counter for filing a complaint against a BJP MLA for holding dual citizenship.Rodrigues said he would respond appropriately before the court after receiving the chargesheet.
Old Goa police have already filed an FIR against him in January 2016 in the alleged dual citizenship case.
Expressing relief that the chargesheet has been finally filed after three years of a politically-manipulated investigation, Rodrigues has expressed hope that the conspirators, including some police officers, who have acted as henchmen of politicians to malign his name, will not be spared by law. Reiterating that he has never applied for Portuguese nationality, Rodrigues said these were desperate attempts to malign his name. He also said these would never deter his commitment to continue his battle against corruption, nepotism and injustice that he started in 1975.
Rodrigues said since he was born before Goa's liberation and as such was a Portuguese by birth, there was no question of him applying for Portuguese nationality. Had he applied for Portuguese nationality, those details would have been available with the home department, he added.
