Cops submit report in ISL assault case

MARGAO: Sub-divisional police officer, Salcete, Dy SP Raju Raut Dessai, on Wednesday submitted his report of the inquiry into the alleged assault by the police on the 20-year-old spectator Lester D’Souza and his parents, to the police headquarters for onward submission to the director general of police (DGP).
Police sources said that statements of altogether eight persons were recorded by Raut Dessai in connection with the probe.Besides Lester’s parents, Seby and Tina D’Souza, two friends of Lester deposed before the inquiry officer. Two IRB police PSIs and two other constables were also interrogated as part of the inquiry proceedings, it is learnt.
The inquiry was conducted following the directions issued by the state director general of police (DGP) Muktesh Chander, to the South Goa police for a probe to be conducted in the matter.
