PANAJI: The directorate of education (DoE) has asked schools to get students to participate in large numbers in view of the 5th International Day of Yoga celebrations on June 21.
They have been asked to carry out mass demonstrations of yoga asanas for students on the day from 7am to 8am. In a circular issued on Tuesday, director Nagraj Honnekeri has asked schools to encourage students’ participation at the school level as well as at the events to be held at the district and state level.

“The government has decided to take forward the momentum created by the International Day of Yoga, 2019 with greater and more active participation from youth during the current year’s celebration. The main programme would be mass demonstrations from 7am to 8am at the state, district, block and panchayat level as per the common yoga protocol developed by the Ministry of Ayush,” Honnekeri has said.
Schools have been asked to send a report of their activities to project director of the Goa Samagraha Shiksha Abhiyan, a post also held by Honnekeri. These reports accompanied with photographs will be sent to the Union Ayush ministry and the Union human resource development ministry.
“It is enjoined upon heads of schools to extend full cooperation by encouraging participation of students/staff in large numbers to observe the day at the school as well as the other levels so as to make the day a great success,” said Honnekeri. In another circular, the director has also asked schools to celebrate Goa Revolution Day on June 18 “in a befitting manner so that students appreciate and respect the role of freedom fighters”.
“It was on June 18, 1946, that Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and Dr Juliao Menezes urged Goans to stand against Portuguese,” the circular issued on Tuesday states.
