Women queue up to use one of the few unlocked toilets at GMC
PANAJI: Female visiting various OPDs continued to have trouble relieving themselves due to the water scarcity problem on Thursday.
The ladies toilet continued to be locked due to the shortage of water. Senior citizens, little children and persons with disabilities were seen covering their noses while they queued up to use the dirty Male toilet which the cleaning staff struggled to clean with the short supply of water.

One lady with disabilities from Margao who used the toilet said it was “not worth it”. Others preferred to try their luck at the Sulabh Shouchalaya outside inside the GMC complex which was also shut due to the water shortage.
Although the hospital received tanker water, attendants were seen transporting buckets of water from one part of the large hospital to the other on trolleys. Patients in wards also had to use bottled water in toilets as the supply was not regular.
Prashant Chanekar, a good samaritan who distributed water for free outside GMC on Tuesday was also seen continuing his work on Wednesday with people placing their empty cans at the spot in anticipation of his arrival.
On the seventh day without water, schools also struggled to manage children. Students although not permitted outside the school building, were seen using public toilets outside as schools made special requests that the students not be charged to use the toilets.
One school that was sent a tanker couldn’t fill its tank as the pipe was not long enough to reach their tank. In another school a parent said students were lucky enough to have drinking water after provision for filtered water was recently installed for an inspection.
