MARGAO: In view of the abrupt termination of contract by the municipality's garbage collection contractor, the chairperson and chief officer of the Margao Municipal Council on Monday held a meeting with all its sanitary workers, supervisors and garbage vehicle drivers along with all the councillors to streamline the garbage collection system.
"We have put in place measures to ensure that the door to door garbage collection goes on unhindered. The workers have been told to clear all the black spots," chief officer Siddhivinayak Naik told TOI.
With the garbage collection contractor calling it quits, the door to door collection of garbage had stopped in many wards of Margao and Fatorda leading to increase in the quantum of waste landing on the numerous black spots across the city.
With the recent high court order preventing MMC from dumping open waste at Sonsoddo, the civic body is having a tough time in garbage management.
