Goa: New multipurpose vehicle worth 2.34 cr for fire dept
PANAJI: Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday launched an advanced multipurpose fire tender vehicle purchased at the cost of Rs 2.34 crore. The vehicle will be stationed at the Verna fire station, to be used for any untoward industrial incidents.
Sawant said that this was the first advanced vehicle procured by the fire force.
The fire tender vehicle is being donated by Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar, under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLAD) scheme.
Addressing reporters, the chief minister said that two more such vehicles were required to be stationed at the Kundai industrial estate and Mapusa industrial estate.
“With two more vehicles, the industrial need will be taken care of,” he said.
The vehicle is built on a 16-tonne chassis and can accommodate six crew members. The crew members have been provided with individual quick-release seats with the placement of breathing apparatus’ set up for each member.
It is equipped with a Godiva pump having an output of 2,000 litres per minute, connected to the water-monitor mounted on top of the vehicle, with a throw of 50 meters. The cost of the chassis and the entire fabrication of advance multipurpose vehicle, along with firefighting, search, rescue, cutting and breathing equipments, have amounted to the total of Rs 2.34 crore.
The chief minister also said that new three fire tenders were to be stationed at Dharbandora, Cuncolim and Porvorim. "Many other firefighting equipment have been approved by the state government and they would be purchased in the next six months,” he said.
