Goa varsity to conduct student council elections
PANAJI: The Goa University Students Council (GUSC) elections for the academic year 2018-19 will take place on October 30 this year.
The polls, which are usually conducted around August, have been delayed and are being held towards the fag end of the first semester of the academic year.
The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Goa unit, in August, had raised the issue of the polls not being held so far after the new academic year began.
They had alleged that the BJP, whose student’s wing is the main opposition for NSUI, had deliberately delayed the polls.
In the GUSC elections, university class representatives are elected in all streams at the university and affiliated colleges and class representatives in turn elect their university faculty representatives. While the university class representatives will be elected on October 10, the university faculty representatives will be voted for on October 17. The entire process of filing nominations will begin from October 4 onwards.
University faculty representatives will then file their nominations for the different posts of the executive committee of the GU’s students' council and the final elections will be held on October 30.
