Govt teachers get trained to make learning interesting
Panaji: Almost 2,500 teachers and heads of government schools in Goa, teaching from Class I to VIII, are being trained to upgrade the teaching methodology employed by them. The educators are being provided training on how to make use of tools like art and technology to make learning more interesting for students, while getting better results.
Around 24 resource persons trained by the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) are imparting the new skills to government school teachers and heads in Goa said Narendra Kamat, state chief coordinator for quality improvement, under the Samagraha Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).

Kamat said that 18 batches of teachers and school heads had already completed the training, which began in November and will continue till January 2020. The next National Achievement Survey (NAS) to test the learning levels of school students will be held during the next academic year 2020-21 across the country.
“The other modules cover the usage of new methodology to upgrade teaching, such as the ways to make assessment a less stressful and more joyful process for elementary school students. Teachers and school heads will learn how to conduct school-based assessment and reporting better, to correctly identify and address problem areas for students,” said Kamat.
The training is aimed at encouraging critical thinking in students.
“Students were lagging behind in science and maths, so we introduced a workbook ‘Challenge Mathematics’ forClass I to IV. The workbook is designed for teachers to teach each student as per their individual ability,” said Kamat.
