HSRP may be enforced after Ganesh festival
Panaji: The replacement of existing number plates with high security registration plates (HSRP) is likely to commence after Ganesh Chaturthi, director of transport, Rajan Satardekar said.
All new vehicles that have been manufactured after April 1, this year, are to be sold with the HSRP installed at the dealers’ level as per the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) notification mandating the same.
Partial implementation of the number plates in Goa has already commenced on new vehicles.
The state was however, to start installing these number plates on old vehicles registered prior to April 2019. After multiple delays, the transport department faced yet another roadblock when the HSRP number plates meant for commercial vehicles encountered a problem.
“The background is to be yellow and numbers on the plates are to be black, which was not available in the market. We have scheduled a meeting with the supplier to thus include these number plates, as well,” Satardekar said.
“Right now, the implementation of HSRP is not 100% but once we sort out the issue with the old commercial vehicles, the implementation will start. After Ganesh Chaturthi, we can expect to start the implementation of HSRP on old vehicles,” he said.
Sources from the department said that the transport officials are in the process of finalising the last leg of implementation.
“The implementation on old vehicles will start after we issue a public notice on the fitment of HSRP.” an official said.
