I’m disappointed, but taking this as challenge, says Goa's Seriton

Panaji: In his mind, Seriton Fernandes is the best right-back in this country. In the eyes of his coach Sergio Lobera, there is no doubt as well. But despite his impressive show for FC Goa in the Indian Super League (ISL) last season, he still has lot of ground to cover with the national team.
The FC Goa right back is not among the probables for the national team. Even as coach Igor Stimac prepares for the World Cup 2022 qualifier against Bangladesh next week with a huge question mark over the fitness over Rahul Bheke – who he has used in the position for two consecutive matches – Seriton hasn’t lost belief.
“I was disappointed that I was not considered among the probables, but I take disappointment as a challenge.I never give up and I am sure that I will be there. I am looking forward to this season. I will continue to work hard,” said Seriton.
Last season, Seriton was the first name on Lobera’s teamlist for all matches. No domestic outfield player played as many matches as him in the ISL as he played every minute of Goa’s campaign. There were the odd difficulties, he admits, like handling Chennaiyin FC’s Gregory Nelson – who made life difficult even though he tackled him “like hell” – and now he is raring to do it all over again, probably even better.
“I think I played very good football (last season), We had an attacking approach. The coach likes my game and gives me the confidence to do well. Now, there is competition (for places) as right back. I’ll work hard and show coach that I am the best right back in the country, according to me,” said Seriton.
For many years, the former Sporting Clube de Goa player was being fielded as a right winger and it was not until his stint with Churchill Brothers in the I-League that coach Derrick Pereira thought he would do better as a right back. He played in that position against Mohun Bagan helping his team register a famous win and hasn’t looked back since.
