Inputs sought for St Inez Creek’s revival
Panaji: Describing the polluted state of the St Inez Creek as a burning issue, Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) plans to offer recommendations to the state government which could help revive the nearly stagnant creek.
While several reports and plans have been floated by different state government agencies to breathe life into the stinking creek, nothing has happened on ground for years.
“The people of Panaji are suffering. We are calling people who have done substantial work on the creek,” said GCCI director A K Banerjee.
GCCI will hold a public consultation programme on November 15, and has sought opinions from Panaji citizens, representatives from hotels, government departments and institutions to chalk out what can be done to “improve the St Inez creek and make it a living entity and a sustainable and beautiful water body”.
Under the smart city mission, Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd has prepared a detailed project report to revitalise the creek using funds from the Asian Development Bank under its Cities Development Initiative For Asia. However, the state government has yet to give its nod for the project. “. We will compile solutions and give it to the government,” he said.
