PANAJI: The state transport department has instructed Real Mazon India Ltd, the contractor hired to install high security registration plates (HSRP) on vehicles in Goa, to keep vehicle owners updated about the status of the fitment process through SMS alerts.
“With the help of these SMS alerts, the user can track the progress of their HSRPs. We are speaking to our IT department to get this incorporated in our system.
We will start the SMS service by the end of this week,” assistant general manager, Real Mazon India Ltd, Biswajeet Mukherjee told TOI.

After weeks of trials and errors, the contractor had opened up the option of online registrations for vehicle owners. While this reduced the pressure on HSRP cash counters housed at regional transport offices (RTOs), residents continued to scramble to the fitment centres on their designated date to complete the installation.
Currently, the applicant only receives a text message to confirm payment for the number plate, which is done at the cash counters. Following the incorporation of the SMS alerts, vehicle owners will receive text messages on the HSRP plates being ready for delivery to the fitment centre among other updates.
“Since the contractor has begun online bookings, we have told the contractor to send SMS alerts so that people do not rush to the fitment centre unnecessarily early. When they’re constantly updated about the HSRP status, they will be able to plan their visit for the number plate’s installation, accordingly,” a transport official said. On an average, there are 150 to 200 online bookings made for HSRPs per day, the contractor informed.
