PANAJI: Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Goa sub-zone, have arrested Nigerian national, Obieze Uche Christian, who was found to be the kingpin of a drug racket that had been busted in May this year.
The police were on the lookout for the kingpin over the last two months after the drug haul of 360g of
cocaine worth Rs 1.5 crore that was seized on May 5 this year.
In May, NCB’s Mumbai sleuths had intercepted a woman, Kalpana P Ramteke, a resident of Nagpur, Maharashtra, in connection with the Rs 1.5 crore parcel that had come from Trinidad and Tobago.
The final destination of the
drugs seized was Goa, officials found. In the follow-up action, a woman named Divya was arrested, after which it came to light that the kingpin was the Nigerian. Goa NCB officials finally managed to arrest Christian this week, and he was produced in court on Wednesday.
In November 2017, another Nigerian national, Ejike Anichukwu, was caught by NCB Goa in connection with a cocaine seizure of 1.840kg.
NCB Goa officials are still looking for other possible
associates and others in the chain who may be directly or indirectly assisting the drug traffickers, officials said.
