PANAJI: A joint inspection was conducted by the directorate of transport, Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTC) along with Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (GSIDC) officials on the construction of the new transport building at Patto on Wednesday.
“It will be an integrated complex of all related departments, including KTC. The proposed new bus stand will be annexed there.
The existing bus stand will expand into the property,” said transport director Rajan Satardekar.
The construction of this long-pending project will be taken up on priority basis. “The design to construct integrated offices of transport and related departments is already with us. We have applied to the CCP for a construction licence,” he said.
Sources from the department said the new building will have all of the transport department’s offices—the headquarters, Panaji’s regional transport office (RTO) and enforcement section. Currently these components are scattered with the headquarters at Junta House in Panaji, RTO is split between the conference hall of the Paryatan Bhavan (tourism department) and the enforcement section is at KTC’s Panaji building.
In addition to these three offices, an office will be dedicated to the KTC’s administration. The corporation’s headquarters housing the administration is currently located in Porvorim.
“The minister has told us to shift into the new office within two and a half years. So, the project will be taken up on priority basis. The estimates will be prepared by GSIDC and the project will be moved soon after floating a tender,” sources said.

The department also had a presentation on the proposed bus stand at Mapusa. “The new bus stand will be on public-private partnership (PPP). The proposed plan, along with the design, were presented; some feedback was taken from the Mapusa and Aldona MLAs who were also present at the meeting. The tendering will start now. An expression of interest will be invited within a month,” Satardekar said.
The Panaji bus stand is also at the conceptualization stage. “Tentatively there will be an expression of interest advertised for the appointment of a consultant to design the project,” he said.
