SALIGAO: The urban health centre, Mapusa, has said that it has detected five cases of dengue in the town.
The statement comes as a reaction to concerns raised by Mapusa residents over dengue cases in the town. Residents point out that dengue cases have been detected in Khorlim and Angod wards in Mapusa.
Speaking to reporters, health officer Anil Humraskar said that they have received around five confirmed dengue cases.
“These cases are not just in one area, but in several areas of Mapusa. Wherever we get such cases, we go there at once and undertake fogging. We carry out repeat fogging so that the mosquitoes die quickly,” he said.
Humraskar said that the health centre is spreading awareness among public to avert such cases.
Mahesh Rane, a resident of Khorlim and advocate, has lodged a complaint with the health officer over the issue, blaming builders as being the prime culprits for the dengue cases.
“Builders have not taken any precautionary measures for the eradication of mosquito-breeding grounds at the site of the construction, and the illegal structures have connected their waste water drains to the public stormwater drains, thereby preparing the breeding grounds for mosquitoes,” his complaint stated.

He requested the health officer to initiate stringent action under Section 75 AA, Section 76 (3) and Section 76 A (2) of the Goa Public Health Act, 1985, against the builders concerned at the earliest.
Speaking to reporters, Rane said, “I feel the urban health centre is not doing its duty properly and also it is the duty of the Mapusa municipality to initiate action against such acts. But no one is taking action and right now, many falciparum and dengue cases have been detected in Khorlim, Dangui Colony and many areas,” Rane said.
