CALANGUTE: There were tumultuous scenes at the annual general body meeting of the North Goa Tourist Taxi Owners Association (NGTTOA) at Calangute on Thursday morning with restive taxi owners demanding that the NGTTOA declare a strike within 15 days to protest against the installation of digital meters.
Accusing the executive committee members of mishandling the entire issue, taxi owners pointed out that though the notification regarding digital meters was issued in 2014, the executive committee failed to call a general body meeting since then to discuss the issue.

“Now this meeting has been called after the high court directed the state government to implement the digital meters notification. It would have been better if the meeting had been held two years ago, so that we could have found a solution to the issue,” a taxi owner said.
The executive panel suggested that instead of continuously opposing digital meters, it would be beneficial if taxi owners install them.
